Whew! After several months of discussion and a week and a half of intense effort, I put the finishing touches on a website today. It’s for our local nursing/rehab center – Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
I spent a good bit of time there over the last several days, chatting with staff and residents. The longer I stayed, the more excited I got. This little non-profit, community-operated nursing home is one of the highest-ranked facilities in Texas, and I can see why. Many of the staff are here because they had loved ones living here at one time, or still do. They know each other by name, and know the residents by name as well. The average Texas nursing home turns over 87% of its nursing staff every year: here the staff turnover rate is less than 4%.
Each time I’m there, I see several kids hanging around the rooms where their grandparents or great-grandparents are staying. They aren’t grouchy: it’s easy to see they’re enjoying themselves. And the residents act like they’re in a country club.
I’m not familiar with geriatric care – but I think this is the way things should be.

You have a blog – cool! Looking forward to reading some good stuff.
